Its only the Shop that is closing - BONK CONTINUES
Interview with Kim
YOU will see a closing down sign going up on the Bonk Shop in Port Street this week. Kim Dunn, owner of Bonk, had a few things to say when we interviewed her earlier in the week.
“My shop in Port Street has been by far the most favourite shop I have ever had. The community in Port Street has been genuine and so supportive.”
Kim is not closing the shop because it has failed or gone bust; it is a conscious decision for her to change her career, and for Bonk to evolve into a scooter club rather than a shop
“I have had so much fun with the events and promotions side of things that I am going to now focus on this,” she says.
“I have already started working with my first client, a Pershore Charity, with a view to raising its profile. But don’t panic! I’m not going anywhere, we will be doing the Port Street Fayre in 2016 and you know me, more crazy ideas to follow…”
Bonk has been more than just a shop. As people get older they tend to reflect on how the town used to be and remember past shops with fondness. For the young people of today Bonk has been an important part of their lives, not just as a landmark, but because it has been a place to visit and get help with their skate and scooter equipment. Now, Kim will be running her Bonk Scooter Club at the Pershore Riverside Centre on Saturdays, starting in August (more information on the Bonkskate.com website as it develops).
Kim has been a real dynamo for the community for the past few years. Her projects such as Real Evesham, Calendar Girls, the Evesham Lottery and the Port Street Fayre have all been totally voluntary and all for the benefit of the town.
“It was the fiasco over the Bridge closure, how it affected businesses and the way it was handled that spurred me to do something about it. Real Evesham was just the start, and the support from businesses and the community for all the projects has been amazing.” She says.
Bonk will be running scooter club sessions at the Pershore Riverside Centre on Saturday mornings and Kim will be helping to launch the new Pershore Activity Centre, with Stand- up paddleboarding and archery on Saturday afternoons. More details will be on her websites www.pershoreriversidecentre.org and www.bonkskate.com
